Understanding the New Tax Landscape

These two informative publications summarize key provisions of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, and cover a variety of topics, including:

  • Income and capital gain tax rates
  • Greatly increased standard deduction
  • New limits that apply to itemized deductions
  • Reduced tax rates on corporate income
  • Changes to estate and gift taxes
  • Tax-smart ways to make gifts to USF

Tax Law Changes and You, compares various tax treatments under the old and new rules.

Planning Under the New Tax Rules, summarizes major components of the tax act and discusses various strategies for making charitable gifts.

The new tax act allows donors age 70 ½ years and up to make tax-free gifts from an IRA to USF. A properly completed gift from your IRA will reduce your taxes, regardless of whether you itemize your charitable gifts or claim the standard deduction.
