For Kevin Leong ’70, ’93 and his wife Cathy, Kevin’s retirement account offered an easy flexible way to make a future gift to USF while planning for his family’s financial security. “Cathy and I are grateful for the many ways that USF has enriched our lives. A legacy gift from my retirement plan allows us to give back to USF and extend a hand to future students pursuing an excellent Jesuit education.”
Kevin grew up in a family that valued education and volunteer service. His mother was the PTA president and his father a scoutmaster. For Kevin, USF became his extended family in 1970. Following graduation he worked in law enforcement and became active in the USF Alumni Association, including 11 years as a board member and two years as president. In 2006 Kevin was recruited to join the university’s development division—he holds the unique title of “Alumni Ambassador.”
Over the years Kevin and Cathy have represented USF at countless alumni events. They are especially enthusiastic about Dons basketball, and it’s rare to find their seats empty at a game. Kevin helped launch the USF Thanksgiving food drive led by student athletes, and he serves on the boards of SF Groceries for Seniors and Alameda Meals on Wheels. Cathy was recently recognized with the USF Cable Car award, presented to a non-alum for promoting the mission and goals of USF.
Kevin and Cathy Leong have a deep appreciation for the type of education students receive at USF and its impact in their community. Supporting USF with a simple provision in his retirement plan was easy.
“It took 20 minutes to update my retirement account online and name USF as a partial beneficiary. We each need to find the right balance in supporting our families and giving to the causes and institutions we care about. I hope our gift will provide bright students with some of the same opportunities I have had.”
We provide this information to illustrate the potential financial benefits of supporting USF. These illustrations should not be viewed as legal, accounting or other professional advice. We encourage our alumni and friends to consult with their own legal and tax advisors before completing a gift.
