Why I Give to USF: Barbara C. Bottarini '60

Barbara C. Bottarini '60

The daughter of Italian immigrants whose formal education ended in grade school, Barbara C. Bottarini was the first in her family to attend college. She knew by age 12 that she wanted to be a nurse and was accepted into the third class at the University of San Francisco's School of Nursing. Following graduation, she began working at St. Mary's Hospital near USF in what was to be a 40-year nursing career, working as Night Supervisor for most of these years.

"USF gave me the career I wanted," says Barbara, who noted that her education prepared her well to "make decisions, do critical thinking and be diplomatic," the key skills she used daily in her work. She is passionate about the value of education and this is the focus for her philanthropy.

Barbara has not only made a total of 40 annual gifts to USF, she also decided 10 years ago to establish a charitable gift annuity (CGA) specifically designated to support the School of Nursing.
