A 34-year veteran of USF, in which 24 has been in Athletics and a loyal Ambassador donor to the USF Dons Fund, Julie Congi, has always been on the inside track with her gift in support of the Cross Country program. She is passing the baton to the next generation of student-athletes by making a future gift through her will to help create an endowed scholarship to benefit USF’s track and field student-athletes.
Back in 1984, Julie was ready for a change; she disliked her commute downtown and the long hours she was putting in at a brokerage company. She decided to look for something closer to home and in a university setting. Thankfully, USF was just up the hill.
When asked how USF has impacted her career and personal life, she jokingly says, “I’m still here because I forgot to leave." Julie adds, "The truth is, I love my job and always have. San Francisco is a small town and I get to plan and attend events with people I’ve known for more than 30 years. I really love that aspect of my job."
I also had the privilege to work with Bill Henneberry and the players from the 1951 Dons football team for 10 years. They are truly a special group and I was so honored to be a part of their lives.”
With each day, her passion for athletics and care for the student-athletes has grown. She understands how important scholarships are for prospective and current student-athletes and wants to ensure her gift provides students the funds needed to be able to attend USF. She also wanted to honor her husband Aldo’s dedication to track and field at St. Ignatius College Preparatory.
“Aldo has been a track coach at St. Ignatius for 25+ years. We love the sport and thought it was such an easy and simple way to give back to the university that I have called home for so long.”
When you give to USF through your will or living trust, you participate in a simple act with far-reaching effects. You have the potential to preserve and grow whatever aspect of USF means the most to you and your family.
“I’m glad that I could help in some little way. And I’m proud that it's going to support student-athletes. In all the years that I have been giving to USF, Athletics & Development has shown such appreciation for my gifts and for that I am grateful.”
